Things to do in Skiathos

Skiathos has peacock-blue waters and sun-baked beaches, 64 to be exact. So lazy beach days are always within reach no matter where you are on the island. More than dreamy days in the sun, however, there is plenty for the inquisitive or active traveller to experience so we have compiled a list to give you a glimpse of what Skiathos has to offer.

  • Hire a boat and cruise along the island coastline
  • Take a hydrofoil or ferry to the nearby islands of Skopelos, Alonissos or Skyros
  • Take a crewed yacht charter and go sea cave swimming
  • Explore 14th century Kastro, the fortress-like village built on a rocky cliff by the people of Skiathos to avoid pirate raids
  • Watch Mamma Mia with friends in the charming old-school outdoor cinema
  • Have dinner at an Old Town taverna with Greek music, breakfast at a modern deli in town or venture inland for lunch with a side of dramatic mountain top views
  • Visit the Papadiamantis House Museum, home to Greece’s famous 19th-century writer Alexandros Papadiamantis
  • Give yourself time to stroll through cobbled streets and narrow alleyways in Skiathos old town
  • Visit Evangelistria Monastery and see the loom used to weave the first Greek flag
  • Go reef, cave or wreck diving in clear waters with a visibility of up to 30 metres
  • Hire a quad bike, put your helmet on and visit the virgin coves and lesser known beaches missed by the crowds
  • Do some night shopping for take home gifts on the main strip that runs through Skiathos
  • Discover the island's natural beauty on foot or rent a bicycle
